4 signs that it’s time to change your job

Ever felt an unfulfilled, unsatisfied feeling once you finish work, but can’t quite put your finger on why? If so, read on!

On average we spend 99,117 hours of our lives working[1]. Some love their job, and couldn’t dream of working anywhere else. But if you’re not one of those fortunate some, it could be time for a new job. To help you decide if it’s time, we have listed 4 classic signs to look out for.

When there is no sign of career progression

When you started your job, you probably had huge ambitions to progress into a more senior role. However, if each time you mention career progression you get fobbed off, then there probably isn’t any on the horizon. If you’ve only been with the business 6 months then you might be expecting too much a bit too early! But if you’ve been there years, and haven’t changed roles in that time, then it might be worth arranging a meeting with your boss. If, sadly, that comes to no avail, then it could be time to move on to avoid a stagnant career path.

When every day is the same

Once you’ve been at your job for a while it might begin to get a bit repetitive. Having the same daily routine can be mentally draining, and above all, just plain boring. However, many roles out there supply plenty of challenges to keep you on your toes. If you feel like you’ve exhausted all the exciting, challenging features that your job first offered, then looking for another role might be just what you need.

When your work is no longer recognised

When you finish work each day, do you feel like your work was appreciated by others in the workplace? Are you told when you do a good job? Being praised for your work plays a big part in making you feel satisfied in your role, and if you feel underappreciated, this is likely to reflect poorly on your mood and your work.

When you lack confidence in your current company

Every business goes through peaks and troughs. But if the one you’re at seems to be in a constant state of decline, you might start to feel unstable. Is the company doing well in its industry? Is it growing? These are questions to think about when working for any workplace, and more especially if you’ve been there for a good few years. Being part of a company which is continuing to thrive creates an overall sense of stability, and will affect how happy you are working there.

These are just some of the many signs that could be telling you it’s time for a new role. If you feel like these sound far too familiar, don’t suffer in silence, finding a new role can be easier than you think.
