You’re hired. Dani Allen, Member Services Associate at Zipcar

Zipcar, an innovative business which has created a revolutionary way to car share, were looking for a Member Services Associate. We talk to the successful candidate, Dani Allen, and hope that her experience will help others seeking a new role.

How have your first few weeks been in the new role?

Really welcoming and not at all daunting. Everyone has been so helpful and I have learned so much in a very short space of time. I was made to feel part of the team from day one.

What was it about the opportunity that interested you?

Mainly the company itself. I have always worked within customer based roles, however at Zipcar the customer is always expressed as the main importance. I was also very drawn to the fact that as an employee, you are given such trust and responsibility to take ownership of a situation and are also encouraged to keep learning new things and you are easily given the opportunity to move up, into higher roles.

What do you enjoy most about working in a start-up environment?

Everyone appears to think of themselves as being on the same level. Everyone has equal respect for each other. Sups and seniors respect members services associates the same as we respect them and each other. Another great thing is that if you are unsure of anything, it is so easy to approach someone (sup, senior or other member service advisor) for help with out being looked down on or feeling like a nuisance. Every single person is always more than happy to help.

In your opinion, what makes a great Member Services Associate?

Talking to the member as an individual, taking ownership of their situation, doing all you can to resolve it and more. Leaving the member with a good feeling even after they have been through a stressful ordeal. I would also say, being willing to help anyone on the team who needs it, and not being afraid to ask for help your self.

What were BlueGlue like to deal with?

Toby at BlueGlue was amazing and it would be a shame if everyone he worked with wasn’t made aware of just how good at his job he is. I have never had an experience dealing with an agency that was so positive and helpful. Toby was very honest and kind, with a really personable manor which instantly engaged me. He was able to gather a lot of information about myself, and my experience asking all the right questions and talking me through the whole process, giving me the impression he genuinely cared and as if we were working together. He went out of his way to send me a lot of information about the role, he made me feel relaxed and confident before the interview, and with all his prep and encouragement, I felt more prepared than I have ever felt before an interview. I also appreciated the regular telephone contact before and after interview, Toby would get back to me straight away if he heard anything or to ask how it went. I also received a couple of follow up calls after I had started the role to see how it was going. So thank you so much Toby. I honestly don’t think I would have got this job without his help!
